SRJC Forward
Initiatives
A dashboard of SRJC Forward work, organized using our framework: clarify paths to student goals, help students get on a path, help students stay on a path, and ensure students are learning.
Progress stages used on this page
These stages describe where an initiative is within the SRJC Forward reimagining and implementation cycle. “Not started” does not mean the college has done no work — it means SRJC Forward has not yet taken that area through the shared design and implementation process.
Not Started
No shared SRJC Forward definition, ownership, or coordinated work for this initiative yet.
Inquiry
Research and best practices reviewed; principles, criteria, and initial needs are defined.
Designing
Solutions are being co-designed with end users; options and success measures are defined.
Institutional Review
Shared governance consultation is completed and authority for decisions is clarified.
Implementing
Approved work is live; roles, workflows, and integration are being established and stabilized.
Clarify Paths to Student Goals
Make programs, maps, and transfer options easier to understand and follow.
A clear, limited CAP structure that organizes all credit and noncredit programs in a student-friendly way.
Designing a guided exploration system—especially online—that intentionally supports students who need to explore programs and careers, compare options, and choose an initial direction rather than navigating choices on their own.
Term-by-term maps that reflect how students actually attend (full-time and part-time) and what courses to take next.
Clear guidance for students and counselors on when and how ADTs and transfer pathways work across majors.
Help Students Get on a Path
Design entry and onboarding so students begin with direction, clear handoffs, and early planning.
Helping prospective students explore options and select an initial direction before (or at) entry.
Connecting dual enrollment and senior-year transition work to CAPs so students arrive with momentum.
Reducing steps, handoffs, and friction so students can register and start classes with clarity and confidence.
Clear ownership and workflows for post-application follow-up so students don’t stall between steps.
Ensuring students develop a meaningful, documented comprehensive plan through the end point of their educational goal—ideally in the first semester and no later than the first year—and revisit it as goals evolve.
Help Students Stay on a Path
Build early momentum and provide proactive support that prevents stop-out.
Exploring scalable first-year models that combine belonging, navigation, and early academic momentum.
Using timely signals to reach out first and connect students to support before challenges become stop-out.
Organizing coaching, counseling, and support around CAPs so students experience coordinated help.
Aligning food, housing, childcare, and emergency support with academic pathways and student success workflows.
Ensure Students Are Learning
Strengthen teaching and learning through equity-minded practice, embedded support, and improvement cycles.
Defining and scaling evidence-based, equity-minded instructional practices across disciplines and modalities.
Improve course completion outcomes in early gateway courses so students build confidence, skills, and progress toward completion early in their college career (early wins to build momentum).
Integrating tutoring, SI/PALS-style supports, and course-embedded help into classes where students need it most.
Expanding applied learning (labs, projects, service learning, and work-based learning) connected to programs and careers.
Building consistent professional learning for full-time and associate faculty to adopt evidence-based best practices that improve course completion and student success.
This dashboard uses SRJC Forward’s progress stages for reimagining and implementation work. A status of “Not Started” means SRJC Forward has not yet taken that topic through the SRJC Forward design and launch cycle — not that meaningful work isn’t happening elsewhere at the college.
